At The Highland Arborist, we combine science, skill, and a genuine passion for trees to deliver safe, sustainable, and expert arborist services across the Highlands. Based in Dingwall, we proudly serve Inverness, the Black Isle, and rural communities far and wide, ensuring every tree we work with is treated as the living organism it is, not just a piece of timber.
Led by founder Daniel Boddington – a university-qualified arborist in Arboriculture & Urban Forestry – our business is built on one promise: we care for your trees properly, following best industry practice and British Standards, so they remain healthy, safe, and beautiful for years to come.
Daniel started The Highland Arborist to raise the standard of tree care in the region. Too often, trees are damaged by poor workmanship or “wood butcher” methods that ignore biology and long-term health. With both academic expertise and practical experience, Daniel’s goal is to provide a service that not only solves today’s problems but also preserves the health of your trees for the future.
From the outset, our values have been clear:
Rigorous risk assessments, full PPE, and barriered-off work zones on every job.
Stopping work immediately if nesting birds, bats, or other protected species are found (we know the law, and breaking it can mean £5,000 fines per bat).
Pruning and maintenance only during autumn and winter dormancy to prevent disease or insect infestation; removals available year-round.
No payment is taken until you’re 100% happy with the result.
Every job is handled by a degree-qualified arborist who understands tree biology, structural safety, and species-specific needs.
We comply with all UK wildlife and environmental regulations, recycle timber into firewood, and use eco-conscious working methods.
Fully insured with £5 million public liability cover, member of the Arboricultural Association, and open about our methods, certifications, and safety protocols.
Serving private homeowners, rural estates, and now expanding into commercial contracts with local councils and companies.
Daniel holds a university degree in Arboriculture & Urban Forestry and NPTC City & Guilds certification. His skills extend to advanced rigging for complex removals near structures, stump grinding, tree health diagnostics, and large-scale vegetation management. He’s as comfortable pruning a small garden tree as he is dismantling a hazardous oak over a roofline.
When he’s not on-site, Daniel’s often seasoning firewood from tree removals, a sustainable way to repurpose timber and reduce waste.
From our base in Dingwall, we cover:
…and rural communities across the Scottish Highlands.
Whether you need a hazardous tree removed, seasonal maintenance, or expert wildlife-safe tree care, you can count on us for professionalism, safety, and respect for your land.
